1. Introduction and Background

Maverick Management LLC, is an independent sponsor-type private equity fund that invests in small businesses that operate in the media, entertainment and consumer spaces, founded by Dan Flood. Dan started his career as an Investment Banking Analyst at Credit Suisse, then later became Vice President at Solace Capital Partners, working with mid-market companies. Dan holds an undergraduate degree from UC Berkeley in Business Administration. In early 2024, Dan launched Maverick Management, focusing on flexible investment structures and strategic value creation.

Typically, Dan spends much of his time sourcing new investment opportunities, connecting with business owners, and performing due diligence to find high-potential investments. Each new opportunity requires a detailed financial model, and 95% of the financials he receives come in PDF format, with the rest in Excel. Dan’s modeling process begins in a blank Excel workbook, manually entering and formatting all data before conducting any analysis.

2. The Problem

When establishing Maverick Management, Dan handled large volumes of financial data from PDFs and miscellaneous non-Excel formats—a time-consuming process with room for errors. Dan shared:

“I would say the challenge was that it was time consuming to convert data from the form we'd receive it in to Excel. A lot of times we get our information data in PDFs; it's beyond time-consuming, inefficient and frankly a poor use of someone's time to stare at one screen and copy those numbers onto a different screen. I don’t like doing it. Employees don’t like doing it. It’s not a rewarding thing to do at work. It’s challenging and a nuisance.”

These manual processes reduced the accuracy and efficiency needed for timely decisions, ultimately slowing down his work, decreasing productivity, and leading to missed opportunities.

3. Introducing DocuBridge

Arnav, DocuBridge’s CTO, reached out to Dan on LinkedIn, and showed him a demo of DocuBridge. After an initial trial, Dan loved it. With DocuBridge in place, Dan’s workflow transformed significantly. Previously, Dan would spend hours manually converting data. Sometimes, he’d even question whether opportunities were worth the time it would take to copy and analyze financial data. Now, DocuBridge is a core part of Dan’s workflow:

“I don’t know what I’d have done without DocuBridge. Essentially, whenever I'm building a financial model, I use DocuBridge. 95% of the time, I only have financials in a PDF. The first thing I do is I open up Excel and get all those historical financials in. And then I start formatting it and do my thing. I pretty much use [DocuBridge] every time I'm going to build a new model, which is every investment that I'm going to make.”

DocuBridge has since saved Dan 5 hours a week on average and enabled him to move faster on deal decisionmaking. He can avoid taking days if not weeks to evaluate deals he comes across.

4. Conclusion

We’ve worked hard to improve the product and Dan’s experience so that he can save the time that he does today. We work closely with him to solve problems specifically for his day-to-day workflows. Dan says it best:

“I think DocuBridge has just opened my mind more in general to trying to automate the mundane and repetitive tasks that I have. I imagine with today's technology and advancing technology, that a lot of this could be done automatically.”

We’ve redefined Dan’s workflows, and we can’t wait to do this for the rest of the finance world. If you’re interested in learning about how DocuBridge can save you and your team time on your manual processes, reach out to the founders at dhruv@docubridge.ai (CEO) and arnav@docubridge.ai (CTO).
